The gnups program is the GNUpdate Package Server. It provides a way for programs equipped with libpackman to query remote package databases.

gnups can be installed as an actual server, or as a CGI script. A configuration file on the user's machine will inform libpackman as to which type it is on the specified server.

gnups has not been updated in a long time, as many changes are being made in the core libraries (libpackman, libpql, etc.). At the moment, gnups probably won't work. It will be updated to work with the changes soon.
